F-One Origin Wing 2024 – Review

The F-One Origin 2024 is a current wing aimed at both beginners and advanced riders who value easy handling, lightness and versatility. According to F-One, the model combines the original feel of their first wing with modern materials and an even more sophisticated design. The Wing is available in sizes from 2.0 m² to 5.5 m² (2.0m, 2.5m, 3.0m, 3.5m, 4.0m, 4.5m, 5.0m, 5.5m). We had the chance to test it over the summer in the 5.5 m² size.

Scope of delivery

The F-One Origin comes with a robust carrying bag, the usual F-One wrist leash and a repair kit. The standard package also includes a valve adapter and some accessories for any repairs.

Bag/packing size

The carry bag is large enough to stow the Wing without too much effort when packing. The bag has additional loops for the pump and is ventilated. This allows the Wing to dry out after use.

Leash

The wrist leash supplied is softly padded and very elastic, which ensures sufficient freedom of movement. It is equipped with a Velcro fastener that is easy to open and close.

Unpacking

When unpacking, the lightweight yet high-quality construction is immediately noticeable. F-One has made the Wing from TECHNOFORCE™/D2, which should ensure high durability and resistance. In fact, everything feels quite robust and high-quality. The low weight of the Wing is impressive.

Inflate

The F-One Origin is equipped with a two-chamber system. The front and middle tubes are each inflated via a single valve. The two SUP valves (reactor valves) work reliably and enable simple and precise pressure control. Deflation is also quick and easy thanks to the two separate chambers without a connecting hose.

Surface design / Shaping / Tips

As with its “grandfather”, the wing design of the Wing is based on a higher aspect ratio overall, which results in a larger wingspan. However, it is still quite long along the center tube. The angled wingtips reduce the risk of unintentional dipping into the water, which is particularly helpful for beginners. Smaller riders should nevertheless be prepared to hold it up more consistently while riding.

Material/processing

The center tube and the two central segments of the front tube are made of HITEX 158g, a high-strength and low-stretch polyester. The outer segments of the front tube are made of lighter Dacron 150g. F-One TECHNOFORCE™/D2 in 52g was used for the canopy of the ORIGIN. The trailing edge is made of the thicker TECHNOFORCE™/D2 in 66g. Overall, the wing makes a very stable impression after inflation. It stands calmly and confidently in the wind. The tight stringing ensures excellent control and even pressure distribution.

Handles/boom/strap

The ORIGIN is equipped with an interchangeable handle system. Depending on your preference, you can choose between the original rather long and soft grips, a hybrid version or completely rigid grips. The Wing is supplied with the soft grips typical of F-One, which are already fitted. We tested the soft and hybrid versions.

The front handle offers sufficient space and flexibility to ensure a good grip even with large hands or gloves. It is also stiff enough to be able to control the wing well when flying out.

On the water

Before starting

The wing feels light and well-balanced even before take-off. The wing is stable in the hand and is easy to align thanks to its profile and light structure. It requires very little attention, which should benefit beginners in particular.

Start

The Wing has excellent pumping characteristics. Even in light winds, the Origin lifts off quickly, provides constant lift and enables smooth planing.

Speed

The Wing offers smooth and even power transmission. Even at higher speeds, the Wing remains easy to control. It accelerates easily and maintains a stable speed, ideal for relaxed freeride sessions.

Altitude run

We were able to run upwind effectively and without any problems in different wind conditions. Even in light winds, we were able to achieve good angles into the wind.

Depower

The wing is easy to control in depower mode. It lies calmly in the wind and reacts precisely to changes. Switching between the handles is easy and intuitive.

Wind range

The F-One Origin is particularly suitable for light to medium wind conditions. In this range it shows its full performance and remains easy to control, even in changing wind forces.

Flight stability

The Wing remains stable even in choppy conditions, making it a reliable choice for longer sessions. The lightness of the material makes the Wing easy to maneuver, which reduces fatigue, especially on long rides.

Maneuver

The Origin supports the maneuvers well. It follows relaxed turns well. It reacts precisely even during powerful and fast maneuvers. Turns and changes of direction are fluid and effortless, which should also appeal to advanced riders.

Position/use of the windows

The Origin has no integrated windows, which could restrict visibility in busy areas. Thanks to its flexibility, however, the wing can be easily lifted to keep an eye out for obstacles or other riders.

Conclusion

The F-One Origin Wing 2024 is a versatile and comfortable all-round wing that is particularly suitable for freeride and wave riding. With its balance of control and flexibility, it offers both beginners and experienced riders a pleasant experience. If you are looking for a forgiving and comfortable wing, the Origin will not disappoint. It offers a good balance between control and comfort, paired with a high quality finish.
