Nia Suardiaz The Winging Family Video

From family project to world champion title: Nia Suardiaz in wing foiling

At just 17 years old, Nia Suardiaz is already a legend in wing foiling. As the 2023 GWA double world champion, she is currently considered the most successful athlete of all time in our sport. Her impressive career shows how the sport can function as a family project and inspiration for young girls.

“Nia” family project

Nia’s success would not have been possible without the support of her family. The entire Suardiaz-Muenzinger family shares a passion for wing foiling and practices the sport together, both at home in Tarifa and at events and competitions around the world.

Nia’s success story began at a young age when she started wing foiling at the age of just 13. Her father, a passionate surfer and foiler, played a crucial role in her development and training. As she says, the close family support has enabled her to develop her exceptional technique, courage and ability to perform under pressure.

Current successes and future goals

This year, Nia is taking part in the GWA World Tour (see here for the tour stops) and is traveling to as many competitions as possible worldwide. At the first World Cup 2024 in Leucate, she took 1st place in the women’s freestyle and 3rd place in the slalom. Wingpassion was there live! 🙂 She also won first place in the women’s freestyle and race at the Spanish Championships. Most recently, Nia won the GWA Wingfoil World Cup in Tarifa, further consolidating her top position.

Wing foiling as a family sport and motivation for young girls

Nia, who has both Spanish and German roots, is a shining example of how great success can be achieved with the right support and a great deal of commitment.

From our point of view, Nia’s success shows on the one hand how important family support can be in sport. Secondly, we believe and hope that Nia will motivate young girls to get into sport and pursue their dreams.

Nia’s story is a true inspiration for all families and especially for young girls who want to try their hand at water sports.

The Winging Family – Video Release

With support from her sponsor, Duotone, is a “The Winging Family” which gives an insight into the lives of the Suardiaz family and Nia’s career journey so far. In our view, a true inspiration for all families who want to experience the sport together!
