Sailloft X-Tec Wing – Review

The Sailloft X-Tec Wing has recently been launched on the market. We had the opportunity to test it with 4.5 m².

The wing was developed for those who have already gained some experience on the water and now want to reach the next level. It is aimed at ambitious wingfoilers who are looking for a versatile, intuitive and powerful wing for all applications.

The X-Tec is available in five sizes: from 2.5 m² to 6.5 m².

On land

What immediately stands out about the Sailloft X-Tec is the very narrow middle strut in the carbon boom area. There is definitely enough space for your hands here, even in winter when wearing gloves.

The middle strut and front tube are each inflated separately via a SUP valve. Its two air chambers are not connected to each other.

The outline of the Sailloft X-Tec is relatively compact. The middle strut is slightly longer than the tips of the front tube. In side profile, the wing has a moderate V shape.

The front tube is made of two different materials. In the area of the front handle, a very stiff and low-stretch material from regatta yachting was used, as Gerrit Maaß from Sailloft explained to us at the Foil Festival 2025. The rest of the front tube is made of Dacron with reinforcement threads in the longitudinal and transverse directions.

The cloth is trimmed to be bulbous. It only touches the middle strut in the last fifth. Three stabilizers with a plastic insert are sewn onto each side of the trailing edge.

Sailloft has equipped the X-Tec with two PVC windows on each side. One is narrower and runs parallel along the middle strut. The other is slightly smaller and is located above in the front area.

The wing is delivered with a bungee leash and in a bag that can be used as a backpack. It is large enough to also accommodate the pump.

The wing weighs 2.6 kg with the boom (weighed by us).

On the water

The Sailloft X-Tec is very user-friendly right from the start. Just hop on and go. The bulbous profile ensures that the wing takes off quickly. However, this also means that it reaches its limits more quickly in the upper wind range.

Despite its deeper contour, the Sailloft X-Tec performs really well in terms of going up wind. The holding forces on the boom are moderate. Thanks to the special material, the front tube remains nice and firm, even when the wind picks up.

The windows are a real highlight. The arrangement not only gives you a full view above the middle strut while riding, but also below it thanks to the smaller lower window. This means you won’t miss anything happening on the other side.

The long middle strut gives the X-Tec really nice drifting characteristics. In the neutral position, it remains calm and stable, so nothing stands in the way of a trip into the waves.

Maneuvers such as jibes and tacks are easy to perform. The boom naturally enhances this even further. When riding back, the deeper profile becomes noticeable and the Sailloft X-Tec does not behave quite as neutrally as a flatter wing.

When jumping, the X-Tec carries you through the air as a reliable partner.

Conclusion

With the X-Tec, Sailloft has created a pleasant all-rounder that focuses on low-wind performance. This allows you to fly it quicker one size smaller.

These characteristics and its compact dimensions should also appeal to beginners. Lightweights should appreciate the moderate holding forces.

The window layout is impressive!

Freestyler might find that it lacks that last bit of performance in this area.
