ENGADINWING 2024 Formula Wing Europeans – Day 3: No Wind? No Problem!

The third day of the Ensis ENGADINWING 2024 Formula Wing Europeans at Lake Silvaplana didn’t bring the expected wind conditions for racing, but that didn’t stop the participants from making the most of the day. Despite light and inconsistent winds, the day turned into an entertaining and varied experience for everyone involved.

Highlights of Day 3

  • No Racing Due to Light Winds: Unfortunately, today’s wind conditions did not allow for racing on Lake Silvaplana.
  • Alternative Foiling Activities in St. Moritz: The riders made the most of the day by heading to St. Moritz to enjoy a variety of alternative foiling activities, including pump foiling, SUP foiling, tow foiling, and lightwind wingfoiling.

No Wind? No Problem!

Despite the lack of wind, the participants showcased their adaptability and enthusiasm. At the lake in St. Moritz, various foiling techniques were demonstrated, turning the day into an impromptu show of versatility in foiling. Particularly impressive was the demonstration of lightwind wingfoiling, where riders showed their skills in minimal wind conditions.

Local foil pioneer Balz Müller was in his element, demonstrating how to make the best of the day even with little wind. His passion for foiling inspired many other riders to explore the potential of the sport in light wind. “These days show that wind is overrated,” joked Müller. “With hydrofoils, you can literally pump foil every day, and that’s what I love about the foil revolution.”

Inspirational Moments and Innovations

  • Ernesto De Amicis, the Italian pump foil enthusiast, used the day to demonstrate his skills and explained how pump foiling has improved his wing foiling technique. “It gives you really good pumping technique for upwind and downwind and is excellent technical training for wind-free days,” De Amicis explained.
  • The day in St. Moritz also offered the riders the opportunity to refine their strategies and techniques for racing under different wind conditions and test their endurance.
