GWA crowns wave world champion 2025 in wingfoiling on Cape Verde

The spectacular kick-off to the GWA Wingfoil World Tour took place on the legendary wave of Ponta Preta on Sal, Cape Verde, from February 16 to 21, 2025. The new 2025 wave world champions were crowned in outstanding conditions: Nia Suardiaz from Spain and Cash Berzolla from the USA took the coveted titles in thrilling finals.

🥇 World champion Nia Suardiaz triumphs in the women’s competition

The 17-year-old Spaniard Nia Suardiaz impressed with her fluid style, aggressive maneuvers and courageous wave selection. She relegated last year’s world champion Moona Whyte (USA) to second place. The women’s podium was completed by Annie Reickert (USA) in third place and Francesca Maini from Great Britain in fourth place.

🏆 Cash Berzolla confidently wins the men’s world championship title

Cash Berzolla from the USA came out on top in the men’s event with a strong overall performance. With excellent flow and technically demanding maneuvers, he clearly relegated the competition to second place. In the final, he won ahead of Canadian Liam Coralle, while Frenchman Malo Guenole secured third place.

🌬️ Optimal conditions for spectacular performances

The conditions could not have been better: Solid waves up to 3 meters high and a constant wind created the perfect conditions for top-class performances. The riders impressed with radical top turns, powerful bottom turns and spectacular aerial maneuvers.

The GWA Wingfoil Wave World Cup on Sal was also the only event in the 2025 wave discipline, which means that the champions were crowned directly on Cape Verde.


🌟 Young talent on the rise

The event clearly showed that the next generation of wingfoiling is already competing at world-class level. Both Nia Suardiaz (17 years old) in the women’s event and Liam Coralle and Malo Guenole in the men’s event set impressive trends for the future.
